Phillip Buchanon was a first-round talent who started to blossom into a quality cornerback with the Oakland Raiders. The Houston Texans then spent both a second-round and third-round pick to get him ahead of the 2005 season. However, the Texans let him go less than a year and a half later. Buchanon only played 10 games during the 2005 season.

After playing four games and registering two tackles in 2006, he was released. Buchanon became a serviceable cornerback, but he was a complete bust for the Texans.
