19. Indianapolis Colts – Trading John Elway After Selecting Him In The 1983 NFL Draft
Considered to be the greatest quarterback prospect to ever come out of college, John Elway warned the Baltimore Colts, who had the #1 overall pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, to not draft him, as Elway wanted nothing to do with a seemingly unstable organization and a coach whom he and his family loathed (Frank Kush). After the Colts called his bluff and drafted him, Elway famously held out, forcing Indianapolis to trade him.
The Colts received numerous intriguing offers for Elway, but owner Bob Irsay decided to take a lesser deal, which sent Elway to the Denver Broncos. And the rest, as they say, is history.
