Aaron Curry
Curry is just one example of what was an abysmal 2009 Draft. The Seahawks actually thought they were making the “safe choice” by taking Curry fourth overall. But there was nothing safe about the six-year, $60 million rookie contract he got, especially with $34 million guaranteed. At the time, it was the most money ever given to a non-QB rookie in NFL history.
In 35 games with the Seahawks over two-plus seasons, Curry had 5.5 sacks. That’s just shy of $12 million per sack if you measure that against his $60 million contract. Seattle eventually traded Curry to the Raiders for a couple of late-round picks. But he wasn’t good in silver and black either, eventually collecting just 163 tackles and those 5.5 sacks over his four seasons in the league.
