Darrius Heyward-Bey
Among wide receivers, Heyward-Bey definitely qualifies as one of the biggest wide receiver busts of all time. Ahead of the draft, Raiders owner Al Davis became infatuated with his speed. Heyward-Bey ran a 4.3-second 40-yard dash at the Combine, prompting the Raiders to take the Maryland product seventh overall. They then gave him a five-year, $38.25 million rookie contract with $23.5 million guaranteed.
Heyward-Bey never even came close to living up to being a top-10 pick or earning that contract. He caught only 140 passes and scored a mere 11 touchdowns during his four seasons with the Raiders. He was released in 2013, and while he resurrected his career in Pittsburgh, the Raiders surely regret their decision to draft him and pay him so much.
