Daunte Culpepper
Some fans tend to forget how good Culpepper was early in his career. During his second season in the league, he made the Pro Bowl after leading the league in touchdown passes. He also led the NFL in passing yards in 2004, making his third Pro Bowl that season. After that season, the Vikings wanted to lock him up long-term, doing so with a 10-year, $102 million deal.
But for whatever reason, Culpepper collapsed after signing that deal. In the first two games of the 2005 season, he had eight interceptions and two fumbles with the Vikings losing both games. Injuries would ultimately limit him to just seven games that year with Culpepper throwing six touchdowns and 12 interceptions in those seven games. Brad Johnson took Minnesota’s starting job and ran with it, prompting Culpepper to be traded to the Dolphins following the season. Culpepper also played with the Raiders and Lions but never returned to form and played just five seasons in the league after that 10-year extension.
