Coming out of the University of Wisconsin as the all-time leader in rushing yards in NCAA Division I FBS history and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, running back Ron Dayne was taken by the New York Giants with the 11th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. But the Giants’ coaching staff quickly grew frustrated with Dayne’s weight issues and lack of conditioning. In Dayne’s third season in the NFL, he averaged only 3.4 yards per carry, and scored a total of three touchdowns in 16 games. Less than two years later, the Giants did not make an effort to re-sign Dayne when he became a free agent.
