In a 1986 NBA draft that featured what appeared to be a generational talent in Len Bias from the University of Maryland, nobody scoffed at the Cleveland Cavaliers selecting center Brad Daugherty with the #1 overall pick. Considered one of the greatest big men to ever play for the University of North Carolina, Daugherty was a two-time All-ACC first team selection, and consensus second-team All-American his final season in Chapel Hill.

In fairness to Daugherty, he was named to five All-Star games and even chosen for the All-NBA third team in 1992. But Daugherty’s career was cut short due to back troubles he began facing in the early 90’s, and his NBA career was basically over before he turned 31 years old.
