Sam Perkins
A three-time college All-American and member of the Men’s Olympic Basketball Team in 1984, the thing that Sam Perkins is most famously known for is being the guy selected in the 1984 NBA Draft between Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley. After Cleveland Cavaliers owner Ted Stepien traded away the team’s pick to the Dallas Mavericks in one of his famously terrible trades), the Mavericks.
Known by the nicknames “Sleepy Sam” and “Big Smooth”, Perkins was also known for his relatively flat-looking three-point shot. Still, Perkins played almost two decades in the NBA, finishing with a career average of 36.2% from three point range. But he ends up on this list as a function of where he was drafted, or more specifically, who was taken before and after him.
