12. Lance Alworth
The caveat with Alworth is that he played mostly in the AFL, not the NFL. But that doesn’t make him any less of a wide receiver. Alworth, who was a track star in college, earned the odd nickname of “Bambi” during his pro career because he was thin but a fast and graceful runner who could also jump as high as any player of his era.
Between 1964 and 1969, he led the AFL in receptions three times, receiving yards three times, and touchdowns three times. In 1966, Alworth led the league in all three categories, winning the wide receiver Triple Crown. After many productive seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Alworth was traded to the Cowboys, with whom he spent his last two seasons. In his penultimate season, he made two critical catches to help the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI.
