Bo Kimble was the 8th overall pick of the 1990 NBA Draft, taken by the Los Angeles Clippers. But the story of Kimble can’t be told without mentioning Hank Gathers. Kimble and Gathers played high school basketball in the Philadelphia area, attended USC out of school, and then transferred to Loyola Marymount. But during a postseason tournament while at Loyala Marymount, Gathers collapsed of a heart condition and died.
Kimble helped lead Loyola to the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament in honor of Gathers. After Kimble retired from his modest pro ball days, Kimble has attended various events and memorial services commemorating the life of Hank Gathers.
