With the second overall pick in the 2009 draft, the Rams selected Smith. For those who don’t remember him, he was an offensive tackle out of Baylor. That pick ended up being a mistake, although if it’s any consolation, most of the top 10 picks that year turned out to be disappointments.

Of course, the Rams made things worse by giving Smith a six-year contract worth $61 million, including $33 million guaranteed. In three seasons with the Rams, Smith only saw action in 29 of a possible 48 games, starting 26 games. With an injury history and slow adaptation to an NFL-style offense, the Rams traded him after just three underwhelming seasons.
