Perhaps the last great “home run hitter” of the aughts, Albert Pujols won the Silver Slugger award six times between 2001 and 2010. Teammates and MLB observers always talked about how the greatnesss of Pujols’ batting ability came from the consistency of his swing, and the motion he was able to repeat with stunning precision. The 10-time All-Star also won three National League Most Valuable Player awards, in 2005, 2008, and 2009. In June of 2017, Pujols become one of only nine players in baseball history to join the “600 home run club,” becoming the fourth-youngest player in the history of the game to do so (at age 37).
