If you only really remember the NBA Jam version of Scott Skiles that got to ball with Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson, and Shaquille O’Neal, you probably think he’s pretty good, a speedy bomber that could hit ten threes a game and throw every alley oop. Real life Skiles was far more forgettable and never really had much of an NBA role outside of those years with the Magic.

But that didn’t stop Skiles from making his mark in the NBA record books on December 30, 1990 as the 7–23 Magic defeated the 6–23 Nuggets, 155 to 116. Skiles scored 22 points but also recorded an NBA record 30 assists, a mark that still stands today. Only 11 players have ever even had 25 assists in an NBA game, and no on has come close to Skiles’s record in three decades.
