Shawn Respert was the only first round Michigan State pick in a nine year window between 1991 and 2000. Respert was the eighth pick of a lottery populated by Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace, Antonio Stackhouse, Joe Smith, and Jerry Stackhouse. Needless to say, he doesn’t exactly belong with that set of names.

Respert averaged under 14 minutes a game over his short career, playing on four teams in four years and never really finding a role. He was so bad that he was traded three times in four years and did not land a real second contract despite his draft pedigree.
