Los Angeles Chargers: Melvin Gordon
Philip Rivers can still play at a high level, but it’s clear that he alone can’t carry the Chargers to a Super Bowl. The Los Angeles defense should provide plenty of support this season, but on offense, the Chargers need Gordon to become their go-to guy. The more they can ride Gordon and take some of the pressure off Rivers, the better off they’ll be.
The good news is that there’s no doubt Gordon is capable of being that player. He can be a threat both running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield, almost to the level of someone like Ezekiel Elliott or Todd Gurley. Gordon would have had a career year in 2018 if he had played 16 games instead of 12. It’s vital that Gordon stay healthy this year and be a player week in and week out that the Charger can rely on to be their featured playmaker.
