The entire Rod Gardner experience with the Washington Redskins was a travesty from the start. In the 2001 NFL Draft, the Redskins front office (including owner Daniel Snyder) wanted to select wide receiver Santana Moss, but then head coach Marty Schottenheimer came in and commanded that they take Rod Gardener from the University of Clemson.

Upon arriving in Washington, Gardener was well known for spending more time enjoying the DC nightlife than he did studying his playbook, and his teammates used to call him “50/50” because of his penchant for dropping every other pass in his direction. By 2004, the Redskins traded away Gardener for a late-round pick.
