A first-team All-American and the Naismith College Player of the Year at La Salle University, Lionel Simmons was the 7th overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft, selected by the Sacramento Kings. In 2017, Simmons hosted a fish fry fundraiser at his 22nd Street Cafe restaurant in the Philadelphia area, as he tried to help raise funds for his former high school teammate Clarence “Eggy” Tillman , who required a motorized scooter due to severe physical ailments.
