Nate Newton was another guy who built his career in the now-defunct United States Football League. However, a little-known fact is that he was actually signed as an undrafted free agent by Dallas’ hated rivals, the Washington Redskins. After playing in the USFL, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys, and when Jimmy Johnson became the team’s head coach and moved Newton to right guard in 1992, that’s when things really took off for him. Newton, playing right guard next to right tackle Erik Williams, paved enormous lanes for Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith to run though. He was named to the Pro Bowl six times while playing right guard, and two All-Pro teams.
