Wes Welker (2004 – 2015)
Even after putting up video game type numbers for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Wes Welker wasn’t even invited to the 2004 NFL Scouting Combine. That’s probably the main reason he went undrafted. Welker was signed as a free agent by the San Diego Chargers after the draft, but they quickly released him. Marty Schottenheimer, who was then the head coach of the Chargers, said cutting Welker was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made. The Dolphins then signed Welker, and three seasons later, traded him to the New England Patriots.
That’s when Welker became one of Tom Brady’s favorite weapons. He finished as a five-time Pro Bowl selection, two-time First Team All Pro, and the all time leader in receptions for the Patriots. NFL Resume: 5x Pro Bowl, 2x First Team All Pro, New England Patriots all-time leader in receptions.
