Jerry Krause was the incredible architect who put together these great Bulls teams. Often overlooked for praise when these great Bulls teams are being hailed, it wouldn’t have been possible without Krause. He hired Phil Jackson, drafted Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant, and then rebuilt the team after the first three-peat and Jordan’s retirement.

Krause continued as general manager and tried to rebuild the Bulls yet again, but the job proved harder without a star like Jordan to build around. He retired in 2003 citing health issues. He would go on to work in baseball as a scout for a few clubs before his death in 2017.
