Fantasy: The Sistine Chapel
There are few places in the world as holy as the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. The chapel is the home of Roman Catholicism and is a deeply spiritual place for practitioners of the Catholic faith. However, the allure of the chapel is not limited to religion.
The frescoes painted on the walls and ceilings, including Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, are classic works of art that could be appreciated by an atheist. Stepping foot in this holy place could make anyone contemplate their place in the world.
Reality: The Sistine Chapel
If you are going to the Sistine Chapel to spend some quiet time with God in this holy place, think again. There will be no quiet meditation or prayer. The chapel will be filled wall to wall with tourists wielding selfie sticks and fanny packs.
On the bright side, you will be able to see Michelangelo’s incredible work as it is literally everywhere. Look up or at either wall and you’ll be seeing some of the 16th century’s finest work.
