Fantasy: Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is an incredible natural wonder. It’s actually not just one set of falls, but three. Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls make up what is known as Niagara Falls. The Falls is not only a great natural wonder but an example of American and Canadian diplomacy, as the Falls split the two countries.
For some, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing six million cubic feet of water take the plunge over the 160 foot falls every minute. The Falls are such an attraction that the cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York are now home to casinos and other tourist attractions.
Reality: Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is a natural wonder, but does it really warrant an entire tourist industry around it complete with kitschy tourist traps and gimmicks? Probably not.
Besides, if you’re taking a trip to the Falls, you’re going in a boat to get up close and personal, right? This guarantees you’re going to get wet. Who goes on a vacation to get wet in their street clothes? Good for the residents of an otherwise unspectacular town who’ve convinced us we need to visit.
