Nick Foles
Under most circumstances, signing the reigning Super Bowl MVP to a four-year, $88 million would seem like a bargain. But that was not the case when the Jags signed Nick Foles to that contract in 2019. Foles certainly deserved a chance to be a starter after winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles. It just didn’t work out for him after signing that contract.
Foles started just four games for Jacksonville in 2019, losing all of them. He went 3-7 as a starter over the next three years while playing for the Bears and Colts. But that shouldn’t have been that surprising because Foles was always nothing more than a backup. While he should have gotten a chance, the Jaguars were foolish to promise him a contract with that many years and money because he was never going to turn their franchise around the way they wanted.
