Sam Bradford

Bradford might be the poster child for why the NFL adopted the current rookie wage scale. As the first pick in the 2010 Draft, Bradford’s rookie contract was for a staggering six years, $78 million. Oh yeah, and $50 million was guaranteed. What did the Rams receive for all that cash? Bradford started 49 games, compiling an 18-30-1 record.

The Rams also paid Bradford to miss 31 games due to a sprained ankle and a torn (and then re-torn) ACL. Bradford eventually emerged as a marginal starter in the NFL (though that might be putting it kindly), throwing for 103 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons. However, he made most of his money while playing for the Rams, even though he never delivered on that huge rookie contract.
