After taking the New York Knicks to the playoffs during the 2010-2011 season, the relationship between former Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni and star forward Carmelo Anthony started growing deeper and deeper, eventually leading to D’Antoni’s ouster in New York. In fairness, most people realized that the ball-stopping Anthony would be a poor fit in D’Antoni’s free-flowing style of offense. While the two made it work for a while, it was never a good fit in general. It came to the point that Anthony essentially told the team he would demand a trade if D’Antoni would continue to be the coach of the team. When the coach found out about that ultimatum, he resigned that same afternoon.
