Steve DeBerg
Steve DeBerg didn’t exactly come with the same hype as some of the other quarterbacks on this list, but his rookie performance was just as bad. DeBerg was drafted in the 10th round of the 1977 Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, out of San Jose State University. Despite being drafted by the Cowboys in ‘77, DeBerg didn’t make his pro debut until the following year with the 49ers. DeBerg’s season was disastrous from the start, amassing 22 interceptions in his first season as a professional, while only playing in 12 games.
DeBerg finished the 1978 season with a record of 1-10, a 45.4% completion, and a quarterback rating of 40, to go along with nine fumbles. Despite his poor start, DeBerg went on to have a very successful and long-tenured 21 year career, with most of his success coming in the late 80’s with the Kansas City Chiefs.
