Despite being dismissed by the Chicago Bears (and seeing their fans celebrate when he left) and spending time as a backup prior to his arrival, former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was arrogant enough to believe that he could win games with Rex Grossman as his starting quarterback.

After being handed the starting job subsequent to the disastrous Donovan McNabb era (which didn’t even last one season), Grossman went 5-8 as the Redskins’ starting quarterback in 2011, throwing 20 interceptions in 13 games, and even being benched for the incomparably terrible John Beck at one point.
