Among the numerous mistakes made during the reign of Matt Millen in Detroit was submarining the career of quarterback Charlie Batch before it even started. In 2001, coming off a promising rookie season, Batch and new head coach Marty Mornhinweg simply couldn’t get on the same page.

In nine games as a starter, Batch threw 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, but more importantly, went 0-9 as a starter and lost his job to backup Ty Detmer. Just two seasons after being drafted, the Lions — or Millen, to be more specific — released Batch.
