#6. Pittsburgh Steelers, Tommy Maddox (2003)
Another franchise that’s remained in the wins column because of their stability at quarterback, the Pittsburgh Steelers have had Ben Roethlisberger under center for the past decade-and-a-half. But immediately preceding Roethlisberger’s arrival in 2004 was the 6-10 season the Steelers had under Tommy Maddox.
The former XFL alumni broke the team record this season for most single-season completions in 2003, but that didn’t really mean much since the Steelers offense ranked only 22nd league-wide. When Maddox was injured in early 2004, Roethlisberger — then a rookie — was handed the reigns of the team, and never gave them back.
