Entering the 2017 off-season, Otto Porter Jr. of the Washington Wizards was set to become a restricted free agent. The Wizards clearly chose the former, signing him to a deal that briefly made him the highest-paid player on the team. Less than two years after signing that deal, the Wizards forced themselves into trading away Porter’s deal, to get some relief from the NBA’s luxury tax.
