Thomas was a four-star recruit in high school in Texas and a huge prospect for Stanford to land. While he redshirted his first year at Stanford, he played in all 14 games for the Cardinal, including six starts the following year. He made an immediate impact in those 14 games with 3.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.

During his redshirt sophomore season, Thomas continued to play a key role on Stanford’s defense. He collected eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss, earning him a First-Team All-Pac-12 selection and Third-Team All-American honors. After just three years at Stanford, Thomas opted to leave for the NFL.
