Trubisky was an anomaly in college by today’s standards, as he redshirted his freshman year and then was willing to wait his turn. He spent two seasons backing up Marquise Williams, although he did see the field on occasion, throwing 11 touchdown passes and four interceptions over 18 games as a backup across 2014 and 2015.

In 2016, Trubisky took over as the starter at North Carolina. He led the Tar Heels to an 8-5 record while completing 68% of his passes and throwing 30 touchdown passes with just six interceptions. Despite having just one year as a starter under his belt and only being a third-team All-ACC selection, Trubisky left school early and became the second overall pick in the draft.
