At one point, the Chargers expected Williams to miss his entire rookie season due to a herniated disc, so the fact that he played in 10 games and caught 11 passes means he exceeded expectations. Things got better from there with Williams ultimately having a breakout season during his third year in the league in 2019, amassing over 1,000 receiving yards and leading the league with 20.4 yards per catch.

Despite some ups and downs, once his rookie contract was up, the Chargers decided to give Williams an extension. Given the rapport he’s had with Justin Herbert, Williams appears to be an important part of the team’s future and could have his best years still ahead of him.
