Patrick Aloysius Ewing might’ve spent his teenage years in Cambridge, Massachusetts, been named the college basketball player of the year in 1985 while at Georgetown University, get selected #1 overall by the New York Knicks in the 1985 NBA Draft, and even been named to the 1992 United States Men’s Olympic Basketball Team (aka “The Dream Team,”).

But, most people overlook the fact that Ewing was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and didn’t emigrate to the United States until he was 12 years old.

Needless to say, things have gone just fine since he arrived, as he became the backbone of the great New York Knicks teams of the late 1980’s through the mid-1990’s.
