Best: Dallas Cowboys – Roger Staubach
Imagine today’s Heisman Trophy winner being drafted and then serving in the military for 5 years before returning to the NFL. No team would take that risk today. As a graduate of the Naval Academy, that was the requirement placed on Staubach. Staubach was worth the wait for the Cowboys, as he guided the team to two Super Bowl wins and helped establish the Cowboys as “America’s Team. Staubach would be selected to the Pro Bowl 6 times and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.
Worst: Dallas Cowboys – Gavin Escobar
Who? Most Dallas Cowboy fans aren’t even sure who we’re talking about either. Escobar was taken in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of San Diego State. The tight end was seen as the perfect compliment to Jason Witten. At 6’5” he should have been. He failed to ever record double-digit receptions in any of the four seasons he was in Big D.
