7. Notre Dame Stadium, University of Notre Dame
Popular Mechanics: “A unique brick limestone covers the Notre Dame campus. The stadium is no different. Detailed with a Gothic aesthetic, the 1930 building has grown plenty but always ties back to the original exterior. Legendary coach Knute Rockne helped Osborn Engineering Company design the 54,000-seat upgrade, using more than two million bricks to rise nine stories.”
Our Take: Touchdown Jesus, Rudy, green and gold everywhere. That is Notre Dame football and it wouldn’t be nearly as iconic without an iconic venue to play in. Players touch a sign that reads, “Play like a Champion Today” and most Saturday’s they do. While you’re watching the Irish take the field, look for one of college football’s most famous live mascots, the leprechaun. He’s always ready for a fight.
