Fair warning, this is not a film for everyone. This is a drama about the brutality of the favelas in Brazil. It’s loosely based on real events and chronicles the rise of crime in suburban Rio de Janeiro from the 1960’s through the 1980’s.

The film earned Oscar nominations for cinematography, directing, editing and screenplay, but the thing you will remember most are the performances of the child performers. Well, that and the incredible visual style of the film. It’s a gritty film, but you’ll be glad you saw it.
