Reebok led the way again in 1983 when they introduced the use of Velcro to the Ex-O-Fit. As you can tell from the name, this shoe was a direct response to the fitness boom of the 1980’s. Think brightly colored Spandex leotards and leg warmers with these.

This was also one of the first shoes to be worn outside of it’s intended purpose. This took the sneaker market off the playing field and onto the street for casual use. And with that, the trend of streetwear began.
