8. Andre Rison
Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Rison’s post-career financial troubles were one of the subjects covered in ESPN’s “Broke” documentary. Rison attributed the loss of nearly all of his career earnings on simple immaturity and a culture of “keeping up with the Joneses.”
He openly stated that he would make purchases without any care as to how much something costs, and would have piles of cash laying around with little care. To him, blowing money on houses, cars, or night outs in the club simply didn’t phase him. Clearly, neither did his responsibility towards making child support payments, which he failed to do, while spending money lavishly on everything else.
7. Vince Young
In 2006, quarterback Vince Young was inVINCEable. Today, he’s bankrupt… In the 2006 Rose Bowl, Young put together the greatest individual performance in college football history, leading his Texas Longhorns past the highly favored USC Trojans 41-38. Young was selected in the 1st-round of the 2006 NFL draft and was named NFL Rookie of the Year.
After his successful rookie season, Young’s career fell apart. In 2014, he filed for bankruptcy, claiming assets less than $1 million and at least $10 million in debt. Young earned $34 million during his six NFL seasons.
