
With the release of Forbes annual list of the top-100 highest-paid athletes in the world, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. once again proved he’s the champ, inside and outside of the ring. Mayweather topped the list by a wide margin, earning almost as much as the next three athletes combined!
Mayweather’s much anticipated fight against Manny Pacquiao earned the two boxers a combined $340 million. To put that into perspective, 30% of the $1.17 billion paid to the top-15 athletes was earned during a 36-minute fight on May 2nd.
As far as surprises… Although baseball players have signed a majority of the largest contracts in sports history, no MLB player ranked within the top-15. Even though Current MLB players are earning massive salaries, they are not attracting the same high paying endorsement opportunities as popular athletes in other sports.
In case you don’t have a calculator handy, these 15 athletes earned a combined total of $1.17 billion in 2015 — or an average of $78.25 million per athlete!
