One of the countless gaffes made by former Cleveland Cavaliers’ owner Ted Stepien, the Cavaliers traded away a future first-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for big man Don Ford (who ended up playing three forgettable seasons in Cleveland).

That pick became the #1 overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft, which the Lakers used to select forward James Worthy. After helping lead the University of North Carolina to a National Championship, worthy was an integral member of the “Showtime” Lakers that dominated the 1980’s, winning three NBA championships.
