Portland Trail Blazers – Trading Away Moses Malone

In 1976, the soon-to-be-defunct American Basketball Association (ABA) held the dispersal draft of all its players, and in the 5th pick of said draft, the Portland Trail Blazers selected a 21-year-old Moses Malone.

But after selecting Malone, Portland was afraid that they would be unable to meet his requested purchase price and future contract demands, so after playing in the preseason with the Trail Blazers, Portland traded Malone to the Houston Rockets.
As we’re all aware, Malone went on to become one of the greatest forwards in NBA history.
