Marquese Chriss, Phoenix Suns (2016)
Missing so badly with two picks in the top 10 of the same NBA Draft would’ve costed almost any other GM their job. But the Suns continue to employ Ryan McDonough as their General Manager, partially because owner Robert Sarver doesn’t care about winning and is too cheap to search for a replacement. In the 2016 NBA Draft, Marquese Chriss went from a potential mid-round pick to the darling of the scouting process, leading to the Phoenix Suns taking him with the 8th overall pick in the draft.
But Chriss is what happens when you bet on talent with no production to back it up. In two seasons in the NBA, he’s looked totally lost (if not unplayable), averaging less than nine points per game in 21 minutes of playing time. There’s a growing concern that Phoenix might already have to write off Chriss, less than three years into his NBA career.
