After becoming the succession plan at quarterback from Tim Tebow at the University of Florida, Newton was dismissed from the program for off-the-field incidents, but capitalized on his second chance by enjoying enormous success first at Blinn College, and then at Auburn University. In fact, Newton actually won two National Championships — first the 2009 NJCAA while playing for Blinn, and then BCS National Championship with the Tigers.

During his lone season at Auburn, Newton accounted for over 4,300 yards of total offense, and had a combined 50 touchdowns. He swept every major award for quarterbacks that there are in college football, culminating in the Heisman Trophy award.
