12. Troy Smith (2006)
Perhaps one of the most overlooked Heisman Trophy winners of the last quarter century, former Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith blew away the competition for said award when he won 91.6% of the votes, beating out running back Darren McFadden from the University of Arkansas and quarterback Brady Quinn from the University of Notre Dame.
Between 2005 and 2006, Smith only lost one regular season game as the starter for Ohio State. In 2005, the was named the offensive MVP of Ohio State’s win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, and the following season, he helped the Buckeyes make it to the National Championship game, where they would lose to the University of Florida.
