Their name means a little lion in Mandarin. Shih Tzu’s originated from Tibet, rumored to be Lhasa Apsos, which the Chinese royalty bred with their favorites, the Pekingese and pugs, to create the Shih Tzu’s we know today. They were nearly wiped out during the Communist Revolution, and 14 remaining dogs saved the breed.

Shih Tzu’s, when socialized properly, are laidback and even tempered. They come in all sorts of colors. No wonder some people collect Shih Tzu’s!
