We are a nation of dog lovers. Starbucks has puppuccino. Dairy Queen has the Pup Cup. In n’ Out has the Pup Patty. Facebook has thousands of dog owner communities, by state, by city, and by breed. So yeah, it’s pretty clear that Americans really love their dogs.
But which dogs are the most beloved? After all, there are hundreds of different breeds, all of which are equally deserving of cuddles and treats and homes.
Every year the American Kennel Club (“AKC”) releases their list of “most popular breeds” – based on adoption statistics. Without further delay, here are the most popular dog breeds across the U.S right now!
25. Shetland Sheepdog
Affectionately known as the sheltie, the Shetland sheepdog comes from Shetland Islands off the coast of Great Britain. This herding dog was bred to herd and guard vegetable gardens from small animals and sheep.
In families, shelties are great with small kids. In city living, shelties are highly intelligent and trainable to keep quiet and friendly in apartments. In big yards, the Shetland sheepdog is an alert companion and excellent watchdog.
