The third generation of the football-playing Matthews clan, William Clay Matthews III doesn’t rely on his family name to earn his keep in the NFL. The former walk-on at USC is renowned for his “hair on fire” style of play, and work ethic off the field.

On top of being a total gym rat, professing to work out six days a week in the offseason, his workouts are plenty diverse, including everything from weights to yoga, pilates, boxing, and mixed martial arts. In his freshman year at USC, Matthews was a complete string-bean, weighing just 166-pounds as a linebacker. He has since sprouted to 6-foot-3 and a rock solid 255 pounds of chiseled muscle. This late bloomer credits his success to hours of hard work in the weight room.
