Priest Holmes
Priest Holmes went from an undrafted free agent who was demoted to being the backup running back on the Super Bowl-winning 2000 Baltimore Ravens, to a three-time first-team All-Pro who led the NFL in rushing yards in 2001 and rushing touchdowns in 2002 and 2003 as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. After running for 1,655 yards and 21 touchdowns, and adding 70 catches for 672 yards and three more touchdowns, Holmes was the NFL’s offensive player of the year in 2002. But Holmes’ career was cut short by injuries to his back and neck, and he officially retired in 2007.
During his four years at Texas from 1992-96, Holmes did not complete his degree. But he recently went back to school and received a bachelor’s degree in youth and community studies from UT’s College of Education.
These days, he spends most of his time overseeing his namesake Priest Holmes Foundation, which focuses on encouraging education and enhancing the lives of children in the greater San Antonio, Texas area. Also has done some work being a football analyst in his spare time.
