Daunte Culpepper
The fourth of the five quarterbacks taken among the top 12 picks in the 1999 NFL Draft, quarterback Daunte Culpepper was a physical marvel at the position long before guys like Ben Roethlisberger and Cam Newton entered the league. Back then, being a 6’4 quarterback who weighed 260lbs yet still be incredibly elusive was unprecedented. Culpepper was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro who would loft gorgeous deep throws to wide receiver Randy Moss. But a gruesome injury in 2005, when he shredded every ligament in his knee, effectively ended his NFL career; his subsequent comeback attempts never caught on.
After retiring, he attempted to open a sports bar — aptly named “Culpepper’s” — in Orlando, near his alma mater of the University of Central Florida, but the restaurant ultimately failed.
